A system is disclosed for evaluation of a three-dimensional wave vector field transmission and/or reception of electromagnetic waves, taking the full three-dimensional electromagnetic wave vector field into account. Specifically, the present invention provides a system for three-dimensional evaluation of the electromagnetic wave vector field, over a surface or volume, using an antenna array comprising multiple three-dimensional polarization cells. A three-dimensional polarization cell is composed of at least three antenna elements, oriented in space such that at least three spatially independent components of the electromagnetic wave vector field can be accessed. The invention makes use of the vector characteristics of the electromagnetic wave field made available by the antenna array comprising multiple three-dimensional polarization cells. The main application of the system is in wireless communication, where three-dimensional evaluation of the electromagnetic wave vector field gives valuable information about the wireless signal and the communication channel. |
