An apparatus for applying latex or similar adhesive as separate strips of predetermined length comprises at least one rotatably mounted application roll having an effective application surface which is part-cylindrical, the circumferential length of the effective surface determining the predetermined length, and means for transferring adhesive from a trough to the effective surface, said effective surface being interrupted by a plurality of oblique grooves opposing the formation of a bead of adhesive at the end of each strip. The application roll may either dip in the trough or receive adhesive via transfer rollers. The grooves may be spiral, of the same width as the fields between them, and of a pitch of about 45 degrees. |
