An electric fuse for electromagneticallywound mechanisms consists of a rivet 6, made of low melting-point metal and subjected to shear stress by a spring 7. The leaf spring 7 connects a voltage source to the outer coil of a magnet 8 via the rivet 6, which is thermally connected to, but electrically insulated from, the core of the magnet 8 through a plate 9. If a permanent current flows through the magnet circuit (Fig. 1, not shown), the core is heated and hence the rivet material softened, when spring 7 shears off the rivet 6 and pivots about the bend 10 to break the circuit. |
