FIELD: railway transport; electrified wailways. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to devices providing control of spring cable tension. Proposed method includes measuring cable sag and calculating value of tension. Prior to measuring, section of spring cable is chosen which sags only action of its own weight and is located between two points in one horizontal plane. Cable sag is determined relative to middle of projection of said onto horizontal plane in whish points are located, and value of tension of spring cable is evaluated by design value of tension of chosen section calculated by formula H = qL2/8.F where H is tension of wire, N; q is weight per unit length, n/m; L is distance between extreme points of cable, m; F is sag, m.
