PURPOSE: A knob for a shift lever of an automatic transmission is provided to reduce operation power and improve operation feeling by considerably reducing friction in operating a push button. CONSTITUTION: A knob(12) for a shift lever of an automatic transmission is composed of a slide(14) for ascending and descending with sliding along a guide surface(12a) formed in the knob and having an inclined surface(14a) at the upside; a push button(24) for applying acting power to the inclined surface of the slide; and rolling members(22,26) mounted to the guide surface to roll-contact to a sliding surface(14b) of the slide when the slide ascends and descends. A plurality of rolling members roll-contacting with the sliding surface of the slide in the ascending and descending of the slide are installed to the guide surface of the knob and to the left of the slide, and thus, the increasing of frictional force caused by the inclination of the slide is prevented.
