Compositions comprising a copolymer of vinyl chloride with an alkyl acrylate and 0.25 to 10% by weight of a calcium salt of a C6- 22 aliphatic monobasic carboxylic acid are prepared by copolymerizing the monomers in aqueous media and adding the calcium salt before separating the copolymer therefrom. Specified alkyl acrylates are ethyl and 2-ethylhexyl acrylates. Specified calcium salts are the salts of caproic, heptanoic, caprylic, capric, lauric, palmitic, stearic and behenic acids. The salt may be added before, during or after polymerization. An example describes the preparation of a composition comprising a vinyl chloride/2-ethylhexyl acrylate copolymer and calcium stearate. Other compositions disclosed are of the above copolymer with tribasic lead sulphate. The compositions may be used for wire and cable coating. |
