An anti-backlash gear combination comprises a spur gear 50 and a helical gear 2 on parallel shafts 48, 46, Figs. 8 and 9, meshing of the gears being facilitated by a flexible diaphragm 14 formed between a rigid hub 12 and a rigid rim 10 carrying helical gear teeth 16. The entire gear 2 may be made of beryllium-copper. Alternatively, a spur gear 4, Fig. 7, may incorporate a flexible diaphragm 17 and mesh with a helical pinion 56. The flexible web may contain a plurality of holes 18, Fig. 7, or it may comprise flexible spokes 30, Fig. 6. Figs. 11 and 12 show a pair of mating helical gears mounted on parallel shafts 86, 88 and having elastic webs 78, 80, the spiral angles of the gears being directed in opposite directions. In a further embodiment, a worm-wheel 102, Fig. 13, has a flexible web 106 to facilitate its engagement with a worm 100 having a spiral angle slightly different from that of the worm-wheel 102. |
