PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for vitrifying high-level radioactive wastes which can prevent overflow, by accurately detecting that the level of the glass in a canister reaches the maximum allowable level. SOLUTION: The vitrification device 1, where a canister 4 is located below a glass-melting furnace 3 for mixing the high-level radioactive waste with a glass material and molten glass G, is made to flow down from the glass-melting furnace 3 into the canister 4 to accommodate and solidify it, is equipped with an overflow preventing means, which detects that the level of the glass G in the canister 4 has risen to the maximum allowable level and stops the flowing down of the glass from the glass-melting furnace 3.
