PURPOSE: A method for processing digital images and an apparatus therefor and a recording medium thereof are provided to extract RIH(Region Intensity Histogram) information on a selected group, and to search regions having similar RIH information based on the extracted RIH information, then to search similar video scenes, thereby efficiently searching video streams. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus inputs MPEG-2 video streams(100). The apparatus groups the video streams by using scene cut detection algorithm(102). The apparatus selects a group of the video streams to be processed(104). The apparatus sequentially selects each P frame of the selected group(106). The apparatus calculates a ratio of blocks whose motion compensation values are '0' for the number of total macro blocks, relating to the selected P frames(108). The apparatus checks whether the processed P frames are final frames(112). If so, the apparatus shows the selected group(116). The apparatus checks whether the selected group is a final group(118). If so, the apparatus completes the procedure.
