<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting diode wherein radiation efficiency of light controlled for radiation outward is enhanced. <P>SOLUTION: In this LED 2, a light emitting element 6 mounted on lead frames 5a, 5b is sealed in a transparent epoxy resin 8 which is a translucent material, and, in this transparent epoxy resin 8, a reflecting surface 9b is formed facing the light emitting surface of the light emitting element 6 for reflecting to a side edge radiating surface 10 the light emitted by the light emitting element 6. The reflecting surface 9b is so formed that it has a solid angle of not less than 2πä1-cosθc (θc: the critical angle of the translucent material)} relative to the light emitting element 6, and the side edge radiating surface 10 is so formed that the light reflected by the reflecting surface 9b and the light emitted by the light emitting element 6 is incident thereon within the critical angle θc. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
