A fiber cassette has a housing (3) defined by two congruent base surfaces (G) and a mantle surface to form a hollow interior for a layer of fibers, or fiber bundles or hollow fibers (2). A fiber cassette has a housing (3) defined by two congruent base surfaces (G) and a mantle surface to form a hollow interior for a layer of fibers, or fiber bundles or hollow fibers (2). The fibers are anchored (3) at one end in parallel to a center plane within the housing. The hollow zone forms an outer compartment (6) around the outside of the fibers. An additional inner compartment (5) is linked to the open ends of the hollow fibers. The center plane intersects the base surfaces outside the hollow zone, which form the outer compartment. The fibers can be of different types, and at least a part are hollow fibers or hollow fiber membranes. The housing has channels (7-10) for the feed and extraction of fluids to the inner and/or outer compartments.
