PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording system having inexpensive construction for reducing data processing in an ink jet recording device and avoiding the lowering of a recoding operation speed.

SOLUTION: The ink jet recording system comprises the ink jet recording device 100 and a host device 200. The ink jet recording device 100 has an ink receiving part for receiving waste ink discharged outside from the end of a recording medium and accumulation value storing means for recording an accumulation value equivalent to the amount of waste ink discharged to the ink receiving part in executing non-margin recording on the recording medium. Meanwhile, the host device 200 has waste ink amount setting means 302 for finding a value equivalent to the amount of waste ink produced in non-margin recording and data delivering means 204 for delivering given data to the ink jet recording device. The accumulation amount storing means of the ink jet recording device 100 stores the accumulation value as the amount of waste ink each found by the host device 100.
