<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a highly convenient image on a recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises a means for recognizing an area on a document specified by a mark based on image information produced from a reading means by reading the document, a means for recognizing text information in the specified area recognized by the area recognizing means, and a means for forming a text on a recording medium based on the text information recognized by the information recognizing means. The image forming apparatus further comprises a means for recognizing the dimensions of the recording medium on which the text is formed, and a means for altering the format of the text being formed by the text forming means based on the dimensions of the recording medium recognized by the recording medium recognizing means.
