PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital broadcast reception storage reproducing apparatus provided with a data storage means for efficiently utilizing an HDD. SOLUTION: The digital broadcast reception storage reproducing apparatus 1 includes: a storage means 14 for storing, reproducing input data and outputting reproduced data; a storage means controller 13 for controlling data input to/ data output from the means 14; a decoding means 15 for decoding the output data from the means 14 to output video and audio; a compression encoding means 17 for applying compression encoding to an output from the means 15 and outputting the result to the controller 13; and a control means 12 for controlling the means 14, the controller 13, and the means 15 and 17. The controller 13 and the means 15 perform compression processing in a time base direction so that the speed of the video and audio obtained by the data reproduction from the means 14 and the decode processing by the means 15 is faster than the substantial reproduction speed of the substantial video and audio, and the means 17 applies compression encoding to the video and audio subjected to the compression processing in the time base direction and stores the result to the means 14.
