PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an echo suppression system and a method therefor capable of coping with a case of a plurality of echo routes and a varied echo arrival time. SOLUTION: The echo suppression method applicable to a duplex communication system includes a step of detecting the echo arrival time on one route or a plurality of routes based on a reference signal and an echo signal, calculating pseudo echo signals for the number of echoes of which arrival times are calculated, acquiring an overall pseudo echo signal by superposing the calculated pseudo echo signals, and subtracting the overall pseudo echo signal from the echo signal. An FFT processing is performed to the reference signal and the echo signal, and similar echo suppression processing is performed using an amplitude spectrum only. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
