PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile communication system which fundamentally does not use an A/D to D/A converting circuit such as a CODEC, etc. SOLUTION: This facsimile communication system 11 has a G3 facsimile communication function using a PSTN circuit as a transmission path, and a G3/G4 facsimile communication function using an ISDN circuit as a transmission path. Further, the system is equipped with an NCU111 which performs the interface with the PSTN circuit; and a modem 115 which is equipped with a function of transmitting and receiving a PSTN-G3 facsimile signal with the NCU111, and also transmitting and receiving an ISDN-G3 facsimile signal, as a digital signal, with an ISDN-G3/G4 facsimile unit.
