PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealing method by which occurrence of seal pass can be suppressed with satisfactory reproducibility in a sealing process, and a manufacturing method of an organic electroluminescent element. SOLUTION: When a region to be sealed such as the organic electroluminescent element formed on a substrate is sealed by joining a sealing plate opposing to the substrate, the substrate, and the sealing plate, and by using a sealing adhesive formed so as to surround the region to be sealed, it is sealed by providing a cushioning layer on the outer periphery of the sealing adhesive.
