CATALYST FOR USE IN MANUFACTURING POLYCARBONATE, AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING POLYCARBONATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably and easily manufacturing a polycarbonate in high yields without using a harmful gas, such as chlorine gas or phosgene, and without using a halogenated organic solvent, such as dichloromethane or chloroform, considered to give an adverse influence on the environment. SOLUTION: This catalyst for use in manufacturing a polycarbonate contains (a) a palladium complex obtained by reacting a polymer represented by general formula (I) with a palladium compound and (b) a compound having a redox catalytic activity. The method for manufacturing a polycarbonate comprises reacting an aromatic dihydroxy compound or an aliphatic dihydroxy compound with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of the catalyst.
