PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crystalline polyphenylene oxide resin stable even at a melt-moldable comparatively high temperature and having a high melting point; and to provide a method for producing the resin. SOLUTION: The crystalline polyphenylene oxide resin has≤50 ppm content of a copper compound expressed in terms of copper atom in the copper compound. The crystalline polyphenylene oxide resin is produced by adding an aminocarboxylic acid derivative to a solution of the polyphenylene oxide resin obtained by carrying out solution polymerization in the presence of a copper compound catalyst, solidifying the resultant polyphenylene oxide resin, and cleaning the solidified polyphenylene oxide resin by using a nonsolvent of the polyphenylene.
