PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an equilibrium mixture comprising a 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)cyclopentanone compound and 1-hydroxy-2-oxabicyclo[3.3.0]octane compound, its manufacturing method and a method for manufacturing a 1-alkoxy-2-oxabicyclo[3.3.0]octane compound. SOLUTION: The equilibrium mixture comprises the 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)cyclopentanone compound (1) and the 1-hydroxy-2-oxabicyclo[3.3.0]octane compound (2). The method for manufacturing the equilibrium mixture comprises hydrolyzing a cyclopentanone compound represented by formula (3). The method for manufacturing the 1-alkoxy-2-oxabicyclo[3.3.0]octane compound (4) comprises reacting the equilibrium mixture with an alcohol in the presence of an acid catalyst. In the formulae, R1-R10are each a hydrogen atom or the like; R11is a 2-propenyl group or the like; R12is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group; and A is a hydrolyzable group.
