PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and accurately read a storing layer. SOLUTION: In the device, in which information stored in the storing layer is read by using a receiver 14 for receiving beam emitted from the storing layer 12, the storing layer 12 is supported on a supporting plane 16 defining an x-y plane, causing relative movement in the x-direction of the receiver with the storing layer. The receiver or the storing layer, during the relative movement, is guided on guide faces 11a, 11b and 16 separated from the storing layer 12 by guide means 20a and 20b. When guiding the receiver 14, the levels of the guide faces 11a, 11b and 16 in the z-direction coincide with the level of the supporting plane 16 in the z-direction. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
