Cooking devices are known with a muffle (5) bounding a cooking space (7), a linear door (13) for closing a muffle opening (11) and a drive device (29) for moving the linear door (13), which lies, with its inside (16) facing the cooking space (7), opposite a front face (59) of a muffle frame (60) running around the muffle opening (11) when the cooking space (7) is closed. In order to increase the operational reliability of such cooking devices, a cooking device according to the invention has an anti-trapping device (64), which detects an object (73) outside the muffle opening (11) between the inside (16) of the linear door (13) and the front face (59) of the muffle frame (60). The anti-trapping device (64) prevents trapping of the object (73) between the linear door (13) and the front face (59) of the muffle frame (60) by means of a suitable control of the drive device (29) when the object (72) is detected.
