<p>Methods for protecting skin from UV-induced DNA mutagenic damage comprising administration of one or more of equol, dehydroequol, isoflav-3-ene and isoflavan compounds in admixture with a dermally acceptable carrier are described. Also described are methods for preventing skin cancer formation.</p>
