Rotational velocity measurement system has at least a fixed sensor (4) for measurement of the rotational velocity of a measurement body (1) moving relative to it that has electrical or magnetic discontinuities in its edge that are detected by the sensor. An additional separation sensor (5) is provided for determining the actual distance between the sensor and the measurement body. The rotational velocity of the measurement body is determined in an evaluation unit from the current signal from the rotational velocity sensor dependent on the current signal from the separation sensor.
