A method for synchronization of a pulse signal (S1) with a data signal (S2) for generating an optical return-to-zero (RZ) signal in which the working point (BIAS1) is regulated in a first excursion frequency (f1) and the data signal is supplied to a second optical modulator (M2), connected to the first optical modulator (M1), and having a regulated working point (BIAS2), the latter working point being regulated during as second excursion frequency. A third lock-in frequency (f3) is used for modulating a phase-angle (delta phi) being adjusted/set, and a decoupled power fraction of the generated optical RZ signal at the output of the second optical modulator (M2) is electrically converted and supplied to a control device (RE). The electrical signal with a modulated signal with sum frequency (f1+f2+f3) is multiplied, further filtered and integrated and from this the phase-angle (Delta phi) being adjusted/set is ascertained and regulated on the basis of a deviation from a power maximum.
