THERMAL TRANSFER PRINTER AND METHOD FOR JUDGING INK RIBBON

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer printer in which an imitation of ink ribbon for the thermal transfer printer can be prevented effectively from being used without causing any cost increase, and to provide the ink ribbon.

SOLUTION: A code reading section 10 reads out an ID code (first code) imparted previously to an ink ribbon from the ink ribbon. A filtering section 20 performs filtering of a security code (second code) printed previously on the package box of the ink ribbon while being made to correspond with the ID code previously according to a specified rule. A deciding section 30 judges whether a normal ink ribbon is set or not by collating a read-out ID code with a filtered security code.
