<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent any belt slip by ensuring an adequate torque capacity in a primary pulley when a reverse rotation of the pulley occurs in a belt-type continuously variable transmission. <P>SOLUTION: In Step 100, it is checked whether or not any reverse rotation of a pulley occurs. In the reverse rotation, the PLpri torque capacity is calculated from the primary pressure Ppri in Step 110, and the calculated value is set to be a torque limit value of the torque-down control of an engine control unit in Step 120. In addition, the input torque is compared with the PLpri torque capacity in Step 130, and if the input torque is larger, the amount of shortage of the PLpri torque capacity to the input torque is calculated in Step 140.
