<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the deterioration of an optical device in a projector. <P>SOLUTION: A projector 1000 is equipped with an illumination optical system 100, a color light separation optical system 200, a relay optical system 220, a projection lens 340 and a screen SC or the like, and the optical system 220 is equipped with a UV filter 231. The filter 231 is equipped with a light shielding film for intercepting ultraviolet rays on both surfaces of one glass base, and constituted so that the wavelength regions of the ultraviolet rays intercepted by the light shielding film are different between an incident side and an emitting side. By superposing the wavelength regions of the ultraviolet rays intercepted by the light shielding film on the incident side and the emitting side, the UV filter capable of intercepting the ultraviolet rays in a wide wavelength region is realized.
