<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting device that improves light extraction efficiency, as compared with the conventional efficiency and has a coating layer, without discoloration or degradation. <P>SOLUTION: The light-emitting device comprises a light-emitting element arranged on a support, and the coating layer covering at least the surface of the light-emitting element. The coating layer comprises an oxide, containing at least one or more elements selected from among Si, Al, Ti, Ge, P, B, Zr, Y, Sn, Pb or an element group of alkaline earth metals, and a hydroxide, containing one or more elements selected from among the element group, having a substrate part and an impregnation part with a refractive index which is nearly equal to that of the substrate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
