PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the damage of a shock absorber by firmly connecting a holder to a coil spring to prevent the dropping-out of the holder from the coil spring. SOLUTION: This shock absorber comprises a piston rod 10 movably inserted into a cylinder 13 through a head member 14 provided at the end of the cylinder 13 and a piston 12, and a cushion member K comprising a pair of relatively opposed cylindrical holders H1 and H1 and a coil spring 1 connected between the holders H1 and H1, the cushion member being arranged on the circumference of the piston rod 10, in which the cushion member K1 is allowed to abut on the head member 14 in the vicinity of the maximum elongation of the piston rod 10 or the extending directional stroke thereof to damp a shock. The coil spring 1 has end coil parts 1a of two turns or more at both ends. Each holder H1 or H1 comprises a cylindrical body 2 and a minor diameter fitting part 3 provided at the tip of the body 2. The axial length of the fitting part 3 is formed longer than the axial length of the end coil part 1a, and the fitting part 3 of the holder H1 or H1 is press-fitted to the inside of the end coil part 1a.
