PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a currency discriminating device for paper money or coins for letting a user easily know whether the current discriminating device is made available while a power is supplied, whether the current discriminating device is not made available although a power is supplied, or whether the current discriminating device is not made available since the power itself is not supplied. SOLUTION: The device is constituted so that a user can visually inspect visible lights with which currency is irradiated for discriminating the authenticity of currency from the outside of a current input port. Then, an irradiation part for irradiating currency with visible lights is put into irradiating states different from each other according to the power on/off states and use permission/inhibition states of the current discriminating device.
