PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a wastewater treatment apparatus capable of removing a phosphorus component contained in a wastewater by electrolyzing the wastewater using an electrode material in which M<SP>2+</SP>ions are dissolved. SOLUTION: The wastewater treatment apparatus is equipped with a treatment tank 11 into which wastewater is introduced, first and second electrodes 12 and 13 comprising magnesium arranged in the treatment tank 11 and a voltage impressing means 15 for impressing DC voltage across the first and second electrodes 12 and 13. By electrolyzing wastewater by impressing voltage across the first and second electodes 12 and 13 by the voltage impressing means 15 to dissolve Mg<SP>2+</SP>ions in the treatment tank 11 from the first and second electrodes 12 and 13 not only to modify wastewater so as to make the same alkaline but also to flocculate a phosphorus component in wastewater.
