<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polycrystalline mesocarbon microsphere graphitized article which realizes a lithium ion secondary battery having a large charge and discharge capacity per volume, preferable discharge load characteristics and charge characteristics (cycle characteristics), low loss of charge and discharge, and preferable discharge and charge efficiency when the article is used as a material of the negative electrode, and to provide a method for manufacturing the article and a lithium ion secondary battery using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The polycrystalline mesocarbon microsphere graphitized article consists of a plurality of crystals with the C-axis of each crystal in a random direction. The method for manufacturing the graphitized article is carried out by adding an organic solvent to a graphitizable carbon material containing mesocarbon microspheres prepared by heat treatment, controlling the viscosity of the material to 1 to 100 MPas, then separating the mesocarbon microspheres by filtering, and graphitizing the obtained mesocarbon microspheres. The lithium ion secondary battery is obtained by using the above graphitized product as the active substance of the negative electrode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
