<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode capable of promoting the deposition/dissolution reaction of a light metal and improving a characteristic and its manufacturing method, and to provide a battery using it. <P>SOLUTION: The negative electrode 21 has a structure where a deposition substrate 21B for depositing Li and an inorganic compound layer 21C having Li ion conductivity formed by a dry film forming process are laminated on a substrate 21A for film forming. The deposition substrate 21B is made of a metal material which has low reactivity with Li, such as Cu, Ni, Ti, Mo, Ta, stainless steel, and Li deposits on the interface with the inorganic compound layer 21C in charging. In this case, the uniform deposition/dissolution reaction of Li is promoted by the inorganic compound layer 21C, and the needle growth of Li is controlled.
