<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method in which decision as for acceptance or rejection in a rectangular semi-finished product assumed in a ribbon-like glass sheet on the line is flexibly performed, and the reduction of possibility for claims by customers and the improvement of yield are realized. <P>SOLUTION: With a defect located in front of the flowing direction of a ribbon-like glass sheet, as a starting object, successively, cutter lines in a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction are set so as to evade each defect. When the cutter line in the longitudinal direction is set, a pair of rectangular regions are demarcated side to side with the cutter line as a border. In the case of the cutter line in the transverse direction, a pair of rectangular regions are demarcated up and down. As for each pair, the rectangular region larger than a reference area is selected and registered in a memory. The defect as the object is changed, and, with the registered rectangular region as the object, in the case the rectangular region comprises the defect, the longitudinal and transverse cutter lines are set so as to evade the defect. Then, in the rectangular regions demarcated by the cutter lines, the one larger than the reference area is selected and registered.
