MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND METHOD OF PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a magnetic recording medium on which the direction of magnetic particle orientation is controlled, and to provide the magnetic recording medium in which a reproduction output is high. SOLUTION: The method of producing the magnetic recording medium has the steps of: forming an alloy particle layer capable of forming a CuAu type or Cu3Au type ferromagnetic ordered alloy phase on a support; oxidizing the alloy particle layer; and then annealing the resultant alloy particle layer in a magnetic field under a reducing atmosphere. The magnetic recording medium to be produced by the said production method has a magnetic layer containing magnetic particles in the CuAu type or Cu3Au type ferromagnetic ordered alloy phase and has a squareness ratio of 0.75 or higher.
