PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder capable of an efficient spare jetting control also in the case where a time interval for ensuring normal recording is equal to one recording scanning time by an ink jet recording head, and to provide a spare jetting control method. SOLUTION: For the ink jet recording head which records by jetting ink from a plurality of recording elements through reciprocative scanning by a carriage, the number of jetting times of ink from each of the plurality of recording elements is measured during recording scanning by the reciprocative scanning. It is judged at a predetermined time interval whether or not the measured number of jetting times of ink from each of the plurality of recording elements reaches a predetermined number of times. A recordable time is adjusted according to the judged result, and the adjusted recordable time is compared with a time required for next recording scanning every time one recording scanning by the reciprocative scanning is finished. Spare jetting from the ink jet recording head is controlled to be executed in accordance with the compared result. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
