PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an empty container compressing apparatus which can deal with empty containers of different diameters and can easily crush the containers with small force. SOLUTION: The waste container compressing apparatus is composed of: a cradle 1 which supports an empty can C to be compressed; a first compression plate 2 which is coupled with an operation rod 2b at the front end of a plate body 2a and the base end of which freely pivots on one end side of the cradle 1; a second compression plate 3 the base end of which freely pivots on the other end side of the cradle 1 and of which the front end exists nearer to the cradle 1 side than the compression plate 2; and a coupling rod 4 which couples the vicinity of the front end of the planar body 2a of the compression plate 2 and the vicinity of the front end of the compression plate 3. The empty can C is fed into a compression space 5 formed by the cradle 1, the compression plate 2 and the compression plate 3. The compression plate 2 is then rotationally moved by operating the operation rod 2b and the empty can C is compressed and crushed while the empty can is held at three points, that is, the compression plate 2, the front end of the compression plate 3 interlocked thereto, and the cradle 1.
