The process involves inputting treatment data into a planning computer (40) that generates multiple sets of segment data. The treatment data corresponding to the required therapy is applied to a radiation therapy device having independently rotatable X- and Y-collimator jaws. The segment data also includes data for positioning the collimator jaws using drives (56,58) in conjunction with sensors (57,59). Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a treatment planning system (b) a radiation therapy system.
