Illumination device comprises at least one light diode (1) that acts as a light source. At least one light diode also serves to detect the ambient light level. Dependent on the detected light level the light intensity of the at least one light diode is adjusted. Measurement and lighting modes of the light diode or diodes are alternated, enabling power output adjustment.
