PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a memory card recognizing system for adopting capacity expressions and new capacity expressions in the conventional internal register, and switching and using the plurality of capacity expressions.

SOLUTION: This capacity switching type memory card recognizing system is provided with a host equipment group 1, a memory card group 3 for exchanging information with the host equipment group 1, and a bus 2 for transmitting/receiving data between the host equipment group 1 and the memory card 2. The capacity switching type memory card host equipment 12 is provided with a capacity switching informing part 14 for informing a memory card being the target of information switching that it corresponds to a capacity switching type memory card 32 for switching a plurality of capacity expressions and a capacity switching recognizing part 15 for recognizing whether or not the objective memory card is the capacity switching type memory card 32 by referring to the status of a large capacity expression register using flag 166 of the objective memory card.
