PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to properly execute a sheet feeding operation by reducing or eliminating jumping of a sheet of printing paper upon a sheet returning operation by sheet returning lever. SOLUTION: The sheet feeder is equipped with a sheet feeding roller 3, a hopper 5, the sheet returning lever 9, and a separation pad 4a. A sheet feeding roller gear wheel 35 is mounted on a sheet feeding roller shaft 2, and a cam groove 37 is formed on the sheet feeding roller gear wheel 35. A boss part 47b of a oscillating member 47 is movably inserted into the cam groove 37, and the oscillating member 47 oscillates according to the rotation of the sheet feeding roller gear wheel 35. The sheet returning lever 9 is engaged to the oscillating member 47 through a torsion coil spring 48, and rotates according to the oscillation of the oscillating member 47 with a rotating shaft 9a as the center. When the sheet returning lever 9 performs a sheet returning operation, the drive of the sheet feeding roller shaft 2 is slowed down, thereby the sheet P returning to the upstream side by the sheet returning lever 9 is gently returned.
