PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an instrument for measuring lead of screw by which the error of the lead of a single male screw or female screw can be measured easily in three dimensions with high accuracy regardless of the shape of the screw. SOLUTION: By rotating a stylus 11 around axis 1b of a screw 1 and moving the stylus 11 in the axial direction 1b along a thread groove 1a of the screw 1 in a state where the stylus 11 is abutted on the thread groove 1a with a prescribed pressure, the moving amounts of the stylus 11 in the direction of rotation and in the axial direction 1a are measured and the error of the lead of the screw 1 is measured from the moving amounts. Therefore, the error of the lead of the screw 1 can be measured easily with high accuracy for either one of a male screw or a female screw. In addition, since the stylus 11 is moved in the axial direction 1b along the thread groove 1a, the stylus 11 only requires a rotationally driving system, and the instrument for measuring the lead of the screw can be constituted with a simple structure.
