A papermaking machine has an assembly to determine the lip (1) interval (S). The assembly esp. has sensors determining the volumetric flow (Q), pressure (p), and a computer (9) that determines the lip interval based on the values (Q, p) measured. The memory device further logs constant values for gravity (g), lip interval width (b), and headbox constant (K).
