PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery in which a charge/discharge cycle life is improved. SOLUTION: In the nonaqueous secondary battery provided with a positive electrode 4, a negative electrode 6 containing a negative electrode active material, and a nonaqueous electrolyte layer 5, the negative electrode active material contains at least one crystal phase of a hexagonal symmetric C14 type crystal phase or a cube symmetric C15 type crystal phase, and contains an alloy expressed by the following general formula (1): AB<SB>α</SB>(1). The B contains at least one kind of element chosen from a group composed of Mg, Co, Ni, Li, Al, and Zn, and the A contains at least one kind of the elements to satisfy the value of the atomic radius ratio r<SB>A</SB>/r<SB>B</SB>of 1.1 or more and 1.6 or less, and the molar ratioαof the element B shows 1.5≤α≤2.7.
