PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitor video system and its image retrieving method which is superior in operability and easily retrieves recorded monitor images. SOLUTION: A computer 50 connected through an IEEE 1394 cable 35 to a digital video tape deck 30 having an IEEE 1394 interface function capable of transmitting moving picture information and control information transmits/receives the moving picture information and the control information to/from the deck 30 through the IEEE 1394 cable 35, controls the operation of the deck 30 to record moving picture information fed from a monitor video camera 20 on a tape and a hard disc at the same time, and registers the date, time and time code of a received trigger input, and thumbnails of images on a sheet of a table calculating software working on the computer 60.
