PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for correctly acquiring a shape even if a photographed object has a featured value different in a partial part and an error is included in measurement of the feature amount. SOLUTION: A region division means 101 extracts a region from a picture by regarding a part where the featured value of a point in the picture is within a prescribed range as the same region. A region merging means 102 merges a plurality of regions and extracts and generates a new region. A shape evaluating means 103 calculates a shape evaluation value of the region based on a difference between an angle made by two sides of a polygon showing an outline of each of the region before and after being merged and a right angle. A uniformity evaluating means 104 calculates a uniformity evaluation value of the region based on the difference between the featured value of the points in the regions and an average value of the featured values of the points in the regions on each of the regions before and after being merged. An output device 105 selects the region before or after being merged as the shape of the object based on the shape evaluation value and the uniformity evaluation value. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
