PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper for a sterilization bag having good heat sealability in the sterilization of a sterilizing object in the bag to prevent the breakage of the bag, free from the peeling of paper and the generation of paper dust and sterilizable in an autoclave without causing the dissolution of polyvinyl alcohol. SOLUTION: A coating layer obtained by compounding a polyvinyl alcohol with a crosslinking agent is applied to the surface of a base paper or a base paper containing a crosslinking agent is coated with a polyvinyl alcohol. The coating amount of the coating layer, the air permeation resistance, the kind of the modifying group of the polyvinyl alcohol, the kind of the crosslinking agent and the addition amount of the agent are set to the respective specified levels.
