PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce colliding noises of a hopper (printing sheet) and a sheet feeding roller occurring upon sheet feeding operation. SOLUTION: The hopper 5 supports a plurality of sheets of printing paper in an inclined attitude. During sheet feeding, the sheet of printing paper is brought into pressure contact with the sheet feeding roller 3 by energizing force of a hopper spring 8, and during non-feeding, the sheet is separated from the sheet feeding roller 3 by a cam 6 pushing down a cam follower 7. A cam 36 is provided on a disk surface of a sheet feeding roller gear wheel 35, and a torsion coil spring 49 is mounted on a frame composing a base of the feeder. When the cam follower 7 is disengaged from the cam 6 by the turning of the sheet feeding roller gear wheel 35, the hopper 5 is made to forcefully collide into the sheet feeding roller 3 by the energization of the hopper spring 8, but this is prevented by the springing force of the torsion coil spring 49 acting on the cam 36.
