METHOD FOR SUPPRESSING OVERHEAT OF PLASMA DISPLAY DEVICE BY CONTROLLING THE NUMBER OF SUSTAIN PULSES

PURPOSE: A method for suppressing the overheat of plasma display device by controlling the number of sustain pulses is provided to basically suppress the overheat of the plasma display panel and to remove the noise and the power consumption in response the use of the cooling fan. CONSTITUTION: A method for suppressing the overheat of plasma display device by controlling the number of sustain pulses includes the steps of: forming a unit subfield by an address period and a sustain-discharge period; and forming a unit frame by a combination of the unit subfields, wherein the wall charges are formed on the cell in the address period and the display discharge is occurred at the cell, where the wall charges are formed in the address period, by applying the sustain pulse. The method further includes the steps of: periodically calculating the average temperature of the plasma display device; and reducing the number of sustain pulses in the sustain-discharge period if the average temperature becomes above the threshold temperature.
